A Message from the Commissioner
Welcome to our Area website! My name is John Stalker, and I am the Area
Commissioner for Valley Highlands Area in Voyageur Council, Scouts
Canada. Valley Highlands Area ( from Rideau Valley/Lanark Highlands) is
physically one of the largest Scouting Areas in southern & eastern Ontario,
covering the communities Almonte, Beckwith, Carleton Place, Drummond,
Merrickville, Perth, Port Elmsley, Smith's Falls, and the surrounding rural
areas.
I Believe that Scouting, with over a million members worldwide, provides a
fantastic program to help our youth learn their rights and responsibilities in this world, as well as
providing a grounding in ethics, training on self reliance, and most of all FUN!
All of this is only possible through the great work of our volunteers, both leaders and committee
members, whom I thank very much for their dedication and hard work.
We are lucky to have in our area, not only great human resources, but one of the best wilderness
camps in Scouting, Whispering Pines. One major advantage of this camp is that it is used by other
Scouting groups across Eastern Ontario. This gives out youth the chance to meet and interact with
other scouts, and our leaders the chance to meet and exchange ideas with other scouters, leading to
better programming all around.
If you are not, or your youth is not yet associated with Scouting, then I invite you to attend a meeting of
the appropriate section or committee, and either enroll your youth, or become involved in an adult
role.
If you have and questions about the program, please feel free to contact me at
